Soccer Suffers 1-0 Road Loss To Sarah Lawrence In Skyline-Opener

YONKERS, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2018) - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team lost on the road at Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Tibbetts Brook Park in Westchester County. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 4-2-1 (0-1 Skyline) on the season, while the Gryphons improve to 1-6 (1-0 Skyline). 

The lone goal of the game came in the 53rd minute by SLC freshman Aaron Britton. USMMA outshot Sarah Lawrence, 20-6 on the day, but the Mariners were unable to find the back of the net, as freshman Aaron Ashery made seven saves for the shutout. 

Merchant Marine had two great chances to find an equalizer in the 80th and 81st minutes, but senior Joe Springer's (Bowie, Md.) shot resulted in a save by a Gryphon defender before sophomore a Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) header was saved by Ashery. Junior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) had two saves in the losing effort.
