KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 8, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team lost to Skyline opponent Mount St. Vincent, 70-59, Saturday afternoon at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The Mariners fall to 0-6 (0-4 Skyline) with the loss, while the Dolphins improve to 4-4 (3-1 Skyline) in triumph.
Senior David Washington (Frisco, Texas) led USMMA scorers with 16 points and tied for the team-high with six rebounds. Sophomore Seth Barnes (Chillicothe, Ohio) posted a team-high five assists and six rebounds while dropping 12 points in the contest.
Sophomore James Walsh (Huntington, N.Y.) scored nine points and had two assists, while freshman Jack Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) registered a career-best seven points and brought down five boards. Classmate Blaine McDonough (Marietta, Ga.) also scored seven points in the game.
Mount St. Vincent out-rebounded the Mariners 43-27, and went 14-for-18 (77.8%) from the charity strip on the afternoon, including 11-13 (84.6%) in the second half.
Senior Jason Barrera put up a game-high 21 points and grabbed 17 boards. Classmate Raiquis Harris dished out a team-best seven assists and chipped in 16 points. Sophomore Vinny Tavella scored 10 points and brought down seven rebounds.
