Rich Mercado enters his fifth season with the USMMA football program in 2021. In 2017, he served as the wide receivers coach, before serving as the running backs coach in 2018. In 2019, he began coaching both running backs and fullbacks.
Mercado comes to the Mariners after a stint at Monroe College (NJCAA) in New Rochelle, N.Y., where he served as an inside linebackers coach, tight ends coach, special teams coach and as the special teams coordinator.
Prior to his work with the Mustangs, he was on the coaching staff at SUNY Maritime College for six seasons (2008-2013), serving a number of different roles including director of football operations, special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. In 2010, he was a part of the coaching staff for the undefeated, ECFC Conference Champion Privateer team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
His first collegaite coaching job was a two-year stint as the special teams coordinator/wide receivers coach at Division II Pace University from 2005-2007. Mercado and his wife Erin currently reside in Pleasantville, N.Y.
