Jeff Broadwell was named Head Equipment Manager at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in July 2011. He is in charge of equipment for all athletic teams and works exclusively with football and lacrosse to ensure equipment safety for the Midshipmen.
Since the Secretaries' Cup has aired on the ESPN family of networks in 2017, Broadwell has been able to work with ESPN to promote OUR Academy be showcasing our gameday uniforms against Coast Guard during segments on both SportsCenter and College Gameday Live. Our uniforms that have been showcased are:
- 2017- Throwback Whites to 1976 helmet showcased gold 142 on back of the helmet,
- 2018- Throwback Royal Blues to 1994 with helmet decal block “M” with USMMA in it,
- 2020- Industry Greys
- 2021- Throwback Whites again
- 2022- “Battle Standard Blues” represented the Battle Standard Flag, helmet 48 stared American Flag, Battle Standard Shield, Last Full Measure
Broadwell has been a part of the three Bowl Championships with the football team in 2017, 2018 and 2021.
He has been a part of the Men’s Lacrosse program since 2012 as the equipment manager. The team’s helmet has had many different looking decals from the traditional look of KP on one side with number on the other side, to Popeye and anchors. He has been a part of two Skyline Championships in 2018 and 2023.
Previously, Broadwell worked as an assistant at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., where he assisted with football and was in charge of all equipment for lacrosse from 2010-2011. At West Point, he served as the equipment manager at the Armed Forces Bowl Game, Army's first bowl appearance in 14 years and first victory in a bowl game in 25 years.
From 2008-09, he served as an equipment intern for Villanova University where he worked exclusively with the football, baseball, basketball, and lacrosse teams. While Broadwell was at Villanova, the Wildcats' basketball team reached the Final Four in the for the first time since 1985 and the football team reached the Elite Eight.
Born in Spokane, Wash., Broadwell graduated from the University if Washington in 2008 with a degree in Economic Geogrophy. While there, he worked as a student equipment manager and developed a passion for football and athletic equipment.
Broadwell currently resides on Long Island with his wife Megan and their son Owen and daughter Julie.
