Offensive Line, Sandoval Named To Team Of The Week; Mariners Featured In Around The Region Column

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 14, 2017) – For the second week this season, has honored the USMMA football program with a selection to the national Team of the Week. This week it was the Mariners' unsung heroes, the entire offensive line, and senior cornerback Anthony Sandoval (Palmdale, Calif.) that were given the distinction of the best in the country at their positions after Merchant Marine's 48-23 road victory over arch-rival Coast Guard this past Saturday in the annual Secretaries' Cup game.

Seniors William Marino (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), Bob Heyward (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), Joe Castellano (Middletown, N.J.), Kyle Carmody (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Jake Murphy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) along with senior tight end Phillip Espinoza (Wood Dale, Ill.) made up the offensive line that blocked for 456 yards of total offense and allowed just two plays for negative yardage (other than victory kneels) in 85 snaps. There was only one penalty called against the offensive line and senior quarterback Brice Moore (Pace, Fla.) ran for more than 200 yards, while three of the nine Mariner ball-carriers went for 40-or-more in victory.

Sandoval had two big fourth-quarter interceptions in the end zone that helped seal the win for Merchant Marine. The first pick at the 10:55 mark of the fourth was arguably the turning point of the game. He also had five total tackles (two solo) and one pass breakup on the day.
