KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 26, 2018) – The USMMA baseball team extended its winning-streak to 10 games on Monday with a 12-2 home conference victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a mercy-shortened seven innings. In triumph, the Mariners improve to 15-2 (4-0 Skyline), while the Bears fall to 0-13 (0-2 Skyline).

Sophomore Ben Kane (Fountain Valley, Calif.) got the start and lasted six innings, giving up two runs on just three hits with five strikeouts. In a scoreless inning of relief, junior John Kelly Jr. (Apex, N.C.) struck out two while allowing a base hit.

Offensively, freshmen Alex Mesaros (Pittsburg, Pa.) and Vincenzo Alteri (Watertown, N.Y.) both had one hit and knocked in three runs apiece, while junior Jesse Reinebold (Granger, Ind.) and senior Bryson Campbell (Cool, Calif.) recorded two RBIs and two runs scored each. Reinebold finished 2-for-3 with the only extra-base hit of the day, an RBI-double in the sixth that gave the Mariners the 10-run lead.

Sophomore Wyatt Wilson (Chandler, Ariz.) and junior Kyle Cunningham (Panama City Beach, Fla.) both had one RBI apiece to round out the production. Reinebold, Campbell, Cunningham, senior Jacob Sithong (Orlando, Fla.) and sophomore Matthew Austin (Rockledge, Fla.) all scored twice in the game. Wilson and junior Trevor Fox (Northport, N.Y.) scored the other two runs for Merchant Marine.

The Mariners broke through first in the bottom of the opening inning with two runs, but St. Joe's responded with a pair of their own in the next half-inning. USMMA tacked on one more in the third and added a big five-run fourth inning to blow open its advantage to 8-2. They used a three-run fifth and a one-run sixth to reach the mercy score and got the final three defensive outs in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

For the Bears, junior J.J. McLaughlin and sophomore Matthew Trudden drove in the runs, while sophomore Joseph Langan and freshman Kyle McLaughlin scored them. Junior Daniel Egan took the loss on the mound working three innings and striking out one, while sophomore Peter Terranova tossed 1.1 innings in relief, allowing just one hit and an unearned run.

The Mariners are back in action on Wednesday, March 28, for a non-conference home game against John Jay College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at Lower Roosevelt Field. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Baseball Schedule Page
