NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the SUNY New Paltz Challenge Tournament on Saturday, opening the day with a 3-0 sweep of Alfred by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17 before falling to Moravian in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-13. USMMA finished the day at 10-2 overall.

Against Alfred, sophomore Carly Soboloski (Peoria, Ariz.) and freshmen Candy Saz-Price (Cabot, Ark.) and Anna Kelly (Orange, Texas) led a balanced Mariners attack with six kills apiece, while junior Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) added five kills on seven errorless swings for a .714 hitting percentage. Freshman Miranda Zeng (Cupertino, Calif.) handed out a match-high 30 assists, while Soboloski served a match-best four aces and junior Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) and Kelly added three apiece. Saz-Price paced USMMA with eight digs as the Mariners hit .350 as a team and finished with 13 service aces.
Kelly led the Mariners with eight kills against Moravian, while Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas) added four kills on a .273 hitting percentage. Zeng recorded a team-high 14 assists and two service aces, while Saz-Price collected a team-best 12 digs. Freshman Savannah Smith (El Paso, Texas) added nine assists, while Mayer chipped in five digs and a service ace.
The Mariners return home on Tuesday night, Sept. 29, when they welcome Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State to the Liebertz Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
