MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (March 7, 2026) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the 2026 season on Saturday up at Salve Regina University, 13-11, at the Seahawks' Gaudet Field. The setback drops the Mariners' record to 3-1, while SRU remains undefeated at 4-0.

Neither team led by more than two goals in a game that featured six ties and four lead changes.

The Mariners had five players record multiple points in the contest. Senior
Owen Barcus (Annapolis, Md.) led the offense with four points on two goals and two assists, while senior
Jack DeTommaso (Massapequa, N.Y.) followed with three points behind two goals and one assist. Freshman
Nathan Mangus (Sugar Land, Texas) and seniors
William Badeer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and
Kyle Hennelly (Dacula, Ga.) all added two points each, with Mangus scoring twice and Badeer and Hennelly tallying a goal and an assist apiece. Junior
Owen Behr (Vestavia Hills, Ala.), sophomore
Landon Locke (Midlothian, Va.), and freshman
Dylan Sullivan (Warwick, N.Y.) each added a goal.

Defensively, sophomore
William Schipfer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Mariners with two caused turnovers and also scooped up a team-high four ground balls. Sophomore
Tucker Kuhn (Towson, Md.) took the majority of the face-offs, winning 10 draws while collecting three GBs. In goal, senior
Tucker Swinerton (Weston, Fla.) made four saves between the pipes.

The opening half featured multiple momentum swings as the teams traded goals throughout the first quarter. USMMA then grabbed its first lead early in the second quarter when Behr and DeTommaso scored just under three minutes apart to make it 5-3. The Seahawks responded with a decisive run of their own, scoring four unanswered goals over a five-minute stretch to move back in front, 7-5, before DeTommaso converted off an assist from Barcus late in the half to trim the deficit to 7-6 at the break.

Kings Point regained momentum early in the third quarter. Mangus tied the game at 7-7 before Barcus converted on a man-up opportunity following a Salve Regina penalty to give the Mariners the lead again. Hennelly added a tally during the surge as USMMA scored three straight to go ahead 9-7. The Seahawks answered with a man-up goal of their own and added a late score in the closing seconds of the period to pull within one at 10-9.

Salve Regina carried that momentum into the fourth quarter, scoring three consecutive goals to reclaim the lead for good. Badeer briefly cut the deficit to one with just under six minutes remaining, but the Seahawks responded less than a minute later to restore a two-goal cushion and secure the 13-11 final.

Salve Regina was paced offensively by Daniel Naglieri, who finished with a game-high six points on five goals and one assist, while Casey Johnson added four points behind three goals and one helper. At the face-off X, Adam Laber controlled possession throughout, winning 11-of-17 draws while also collecting a game-high six ground balls. Carson Van Winkle added four ground balls and a team-best two caused turnovers defensively. In goal, Griffin Caiozzo anchored the Seahawks' defense with 15 saves to earn the victory.

Up next, the Mariners will travel to face non-conference foe Springfield College this coming Wednesday, March 11, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Pride's Stagg Field.
