Mariners Pick Up Big Win Over Mount St. Mary At Home

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2026) – The USMMA women's basketball team earned a convincing and important late-season Skyline Conference victory over visiting Mount St. Mary College on Wednesday night, 84-56 inside a loud Liebertz Gymnasium. The win improved the Mariners' record to 17-4 (14-2 Skyline), while the Knights fell to 12-8 (11-4 Skyline) with the loss.

Game Links Two players recorded double-doubles for the Mariners, as junior Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) led all players in the game with a season-high 27 points to go along with 10 rebounds, and sophomore Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Md.) scored 24 points (on 11-of-12 shooting) with a game-high 14 rebounds and six blocks. Senior Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) added 16 points, connecting on four 3-pointers throughout the evening, while also tying for her career-high with a game-best seven assists.

Merchant Marine set the tone early, opening the game with strong perimeter shooting and interior finishes to build a quick double-digit lead in the first quarter. Kings Point forced multiple turnovers, converted them into points, and controlled the glass to take a 20-13 advantage after the opening frame. The Mariners consistently scored inside while limiting second chances on the defensive end.

USMMA continued to separate in the second quarter, using transition baskets and efficient half-court execution to extend the margin into double figures. Strong ball movement led to clean looks, and the Mariners closed the half on a surge to take a 42-28 lead into the break. The sustained pressure prevented Mount St. Mary from cutting meaningfully into the deficit.

The game was effectively put away in the third quarter as KP opened with a decisive run, stretching the lead past 20 behind consistent paint scoring and defensive stops. Merchant Marine maintained control in the fourth, continuing to capitalize on turnovers and fast-break opportunities while pushing the margin to its largest point. USMMA led wire-to-wire down the stretch to close out the convincing home win.

USMMA was efficient offensively, shooting 56.5 percent from the floor (35-of-62), while Mount St. Mary finished at 40.4 percent (21-of-52). The Mariners also held the advantage from three-point range (35.3 percent to 33.3 percent) and at the free-throw line (66.7 percent to 55.6 percent), and controlled the glass by a wide 45-17 margin. USMMA dominated the paint (42-22), won points off turnovers (22-17), limited the Mount to zero second-chance points, and built the lead to as many as 32 in the fourth quarter.

Mount St. Mary was led offensively by freshman Reese Mayer and senior Brianna Guglielmo with 12 points apiece, with Guglielmo also adding a team-high five assists. Guglielmo (five rebounds) and Mayer (four rebounds) paced the Knights on the glass, while Guglielmo also recorded a game-high five steals to anchor their defensive effort.

Up next, the Mariners will travel up to Bronxville, N.Y., this Saturday to take on Sarah Lawrence College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Gryphons' Campbell Sports Center.
