CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Oct. 3, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy piled up 462 yards of offense and held MIT to just 245 as the Mariners remained unbeaten with a 43-7 conference road victory on Saturday afternoon at Henry G. Steinbrenner Stadium. USMMA improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Engineers fell to 2-2 (0-2).

Bubba Mustain (Oro Valley, Ariz.) accounted for five touchdowns in the victory, completing 16-of-19 passes for 258 yards and three scores while adding 54 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Classmate
Angelo Cimino (Salinas, Calif.) caught nine passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns and also broke off a 29-yard run, while fellow junior
Sonny Endicott (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with six receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown to go along with 24 rushing yards and another score. Sophomore
Harrison Garrido (St. John's, Fla.) added 45 yards on seven carries.

Bishop also came up with the game's only turnover, intercepting MIT quarterback Ryan Treptow deep in USMMA territory late in the second quarter. Senior

Karson Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) also contributed on special teams. He opened the scoring with a 32-yard field goal, went 4-for-6 on extra points, recorded four touchbacks on eight kickoffs and averaged 43.0 yards on two punts, including a long of 52 yards.

USMMA finished with a 25-12 advantage in first downs and outgained MIT 462-245, including a 204-75 edge on the ground. The Mariners averaged 7.8 yards per play, converted 7-of-11 third downs and their only fourth-down attempt, and finished a perfect 3-for-3 in the red zone. Merchant Marine also played turnover-free football, while MIT's lone giveaway came on Bishop's interception.

The Mariners opened the scoring on their first possession, moving 27 yards in eight plays before Bye connected from 32 yards to make it 3-0 with 9:01 remaining in the first quarter. After forcing an MIT punt, USMMA put together a 14-play, 80-yard drive that included a fourth-down conversion by Endicott and ended with Mustain scoring from one yard out with 15 seconds left in the period.

MIT cut the margin to 10-7 midway through the second quarter on Treptow's one-yard touchdown run, but Merchant Marine answered almost immediately. Garrido returned the ensuing kickoff 26 yards to the USMMA 40, then Mustain found Cimino deep down the left side for a 53-yard touchdown just two plays into the drive to restore the 10-point advantage.

The Engineers threatened again late in the half, moving inside the USMMA 20 before Bishop intercepted Treptow at the Mariners' one-yard line with 2:36 remaining. Merchant Marine then drove 97 yards in eight plays, highlighted by Endicott receptions of 28 and eight yards and Cimino's 29-yard run. Mustain finished the march with a five-yard touchdown run with 10 seconds left, sending the Mariners into halftime ahead 24-7.

USMMA took the second-half kickoff and needed just four plays to extend the lead. Mustain connected with Cimino for 16 yards before finding Endicott for a 27-yard touchdown that made it 30-7 with 12:38 remaining in the third quarter.

MIT responded with a drive that reached the Merchant Marine 10-yard line, but the Mariners kept the Engineers off the scoreboard by forcing an incomplete pass on fourth down. USMMA then went 88 yards the other way, with Cimino hauling in receptions of 30 and 23 yards. His 23-yard catch from Mustain capped the drive and extended the lead to 37-7 late in the third.

The Mariners closed the scoring on their opening possession of the fourth quarter. Merchant Marine moved 52 yards in seven plays before Endicott scored from four yards out with 10:40 remaining for the final 43-7 margin.

For MIT, Treptow completed 18-of-23 passes for 154 yards and one interception while rushing for the Engineers' lone touchdown. Jimmy Conners led the ground game with 27 yards on eight carries, while Keegan Doody caught eight passes for 71 yards. Defensively, Connor McHale recorded a game-high 12 tackles.

Up next, the Mariners return to action next Saturday, Oct. 10, when they travel to NEWMAC rival SUNY Maritime for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the Privateers' Reinhart Field.
