Mariners Use Electric Atmosphere At Petersen Lubow Pool To Down Arch-Rival Coast Guard, 174-126

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 17, 2026) – The USMMA men's swimming & diving team defeated arch-rival Coast Guard, 174-126, on Saturday afternoon at a raucous Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. The Mariners (9-0) won 12-of-16 events on the day, including finishing first and second in four events, and had two divers achieve a combined four NCAA cuts improve to 9-0 on the season. The Bears fall to 6-4 in defeat.
 
Meet Links Senior Teague Mayer (Boulder, Colo.) won a team-best three individual events, touching first in the 100 backstroke (52.06), the 200 back (1:54.19) and the 200 individual medley relay (1:56.05). Junior Ryan Lester (Heath, Texas) won both the distance events – the 1000 freestyle (10:05.97) and the 500 free (4:53.29).
 
Senior diver Thomas Cable (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) won the three-meter dive with a score of 344.92, while freshman Carter Kov (Goodyear, Ariz.) came out on top in the one-meter dive with a 333.97. The pair also finished in second place in the opposite events, and all four scores were NCAA qualifying marks.
 
The rest of the Mariners' victories are listed below.
  • Senior Matthew Wachendorfer (Greensboro, N.C.) won the 200 free in 1:46.22 (a season-best by two seconds).
  • Sophomore John Frank (Highland, Md.) won the 100 breaststroke in 58.74.
  • Sophomore Max Fedorenko (Chicago, Ill.) won the 50 free in 21.19.
  • Mayer, Frank, freshman Keanne Hernandez (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Fedorenko won the 200 medley relay in 1:33.85.
  • Frank, Hernandez, sophomore Ryan McOsker (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Fedorenko won the 400 free relay in 3:11.07. 
Three other Mariners had season-best times – junior Abraham Shim (Rockwall, Texas) in both the 1000 free by three seconds (10:24.31) and the 200 back by four seconds (1:57.97); senior Ryan Chmielenski (Bristow, Va.) in both the 100 back by two seconds (55.82) and the 200 back by three seconds (2:03.75); and senior Diego Corredor (Fort Myers, Fla.) in the 50 free (23.64).
 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honors, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Mayer and Cable for the divers.
 
The Mariners return to action on Tuesday night, Jan. 20, when they host to non-conference opponent Baruch College beginning at 6 p.m. at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool.
