KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team exploded for a 9-0 victory over John Jay College in its home-opener on Wednesday night at Bartoszek Field. With the win, the Mariners improve to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Bloodhounds fall to 0-2.

Junior
Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich.) led the way with his first career hat trick, scoring all three goals in a 12-minute span in the first half. The forward doubled his career total to six goals with the performance.
The Mariners also celebrated milestone moments from several players. Three freshmen notched their first career goals:
Ethan Schuette (Gig Harbor, Wash.) converted a penalty in the 72nd minute, while
Charlie Safe (Boise, Idaho) and
JP Park (Falling Waters, W.Va.) each found the back of the net in the second half. Junior
Cruz McDermott (Palatine, Ill.) added his first career goal in the 82nd minute.
Sophomore
Robert Derwin (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the year early in the second half, and senior
John Germain (Cornwall, N.Y.) added his first of the season in the 77th minute, with assists credited to junior
Noe Macias (Lansing, Mich.) and junior
Quentin Lueck (Bakersfield, Calif.).
Overall, USMMA outshot John Jay 45-3, including a commanding 27-0 advantage in shots on goal. Junior
Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.) and junior
James Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.) split time in net, combining for the shutout without allowing a shot on target.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they host Hunter College for an 11 a.m. non-conference matchup at Tomb Field.
