Mariners Roll Past Yeshiva In Skyline-Opener

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over Yeshiva University in its Skyline Conference opener on Thursday night at Liebertz Gymnasium, 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-6). With the win, the Mariners improve to 4-2 (1-0 Skyline), while the Maccabees fall to 2-3 (0-1 Skyline).
 
Match Links Sophomore Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) highlighted the attack with five kills on a team-best .714 hitting percentage and three blocks. Classmate Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) led all players with nine kills and added two blocks, while freshman Sofia Dohr (Austerlitz, N.Y.) tallied eight kills with a .455 clip.
 
Freshman Carly Soboloski (Peoria, Ariz.) finished with seven kills and two aces, and sophomore Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) chipped in five kills and two aces. Junior setter Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) directed the offense with 36 assists and added four aces. Defensively, freshman Emma Borlie (Baltimore, Md.) collected a team-high five digs.
 
Set 1 – USMMA 25, Yeshiva 10: After the teams traded points early, the Mariners went on a 12-2 run to grab a 15-4 lead, with Stillinger, Mayer, and Douglas combining for six kills. USMMA closed the frame by scoring 10 of the final 12 points, capped by a block from Mayer and Douglas.
 
Set 2 – USMMA 25, Yeshiva 11: Merchant Marine opened on a 7-3 run behind consecutive aces from Tipps and two kills from Dohr. Dyke sparked a 10-2 stretch midway through the set with back-to-back kills and two aces, and freshman Brooklyn Branum (Coppell, Texas) closed it out with a kill to give the Mariners a two-set advantage.
 
Set 3 – USMMA 25, Yeshiva 6: The Mariners dominated from the start, racing out to a 9-1 lead fueled by kills from Douglas and Branum and an ace by Stillinger. The advantage swelled to 20-4 after another Dyke kill and a block by Dyke and Tipps, and USMMA secured the sweep with a 5-2 finish.
 
As a team, the Mariners hit .436 with 43 kills, 39 assists, 12 service aces, 33 digs, and five blocks. Yeshiva was limited to a -.138 hitting percentage with seven kills, six assists, no aces, and 24 digs.
 
For the Maccabees, Elle Ohayon recorded three kills and 10 digs, Progress Gasa added two kills, and Emma Lieber finished with a team-best seven digs.
 
The Mariners return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they host a non-conference tri-match at Liebertz Gymnasium against Western Connecticut at 11 a.m. and Hartford at 3 p.m.
