STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2025) - The U.S. Merchant Marine men's cross country team opened the 2025 season at the Stony Brook Season Opener on Saturday morning. The Mariners were the only D3 squad in the field of seven teams, with the other six schools participating being from Division 1.

Senior Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) led the way for the Blue and Gray, covering the course in 20:20.40 to secure a 27th-place finish overall. He was followed by plebe Cooper Johnson (Honolulu, Hawaii), who clocked in at 21:13.30, just ahead of junior Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) in 21:21.00.
Freshman Arjun Suresh (Plainsboro, N.J.) turned in a strong collegiate debut with a time of 21:38.20, while junior Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho) crossed in 22:16.30. Senior Ben Anastasoff (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) posted a time of 22:46.30, and classmate Elijah Ramthun (Bozrah, Conn.) recorded a new personal best with a time of 23:01.10.
The Mariners return to action next Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Purchase College Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
