KINGS POINT, N.Y. (July 24, 2025) – For the ninth time in the last 10 seasons, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball team has been named an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award recipient. The Mariners were one of over 800 total institutions among NCAA, NAIA, Junior Colleges and high schools in the USA that earned the prestigious award for the 2024-25 school year, including one of 170 NCAA Division III schools.

"In our baseball program, we hold our midshipman student-athletes to the highest standards both on and off the field," said head coach Michael Notebaert. "The ABCA Team Academic Achievement Award is a true testament to their commitment, hard work, and willingness to achieve success in the classroom."

The ABCA's Team Academic Excellence Award honors high school and college programs coached by ABCA members that post a Grade Point Average over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year.

Criteria for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award include:

• Must be a high school or college team.
• Head coach must be a current ABCA member.
• Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2024-25 academic year.
