Women’s Lacrosse Wins At St. Joseph’s-Long Island, 19-5, As Russo Records 100th Career Goal

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (April 9, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team came out on top of Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island, 19-5, on the road on Wednesday at the Golden Eagles' Danzi Stadium. The victory was the Mariners' fifth-straight and improved their record to 7-2 (4-0 Skyline), while SJLI fell to 1-5 (1-3 Skyline) in defeat.
 
Game Link Senior Gianna Russo (Wake Forest, N.C.) was one of three Mariners with six points on the night, as she scored a game-high five goals and dished out one assist. Entering the night, she needed just three goals to reach 100 for her career and she achieved that in just the first quarter. Classmate Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) and sophomore Leslie Wysong (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) both had six points each with identical three-goal, three-assist efforts.
 
Sophomore Grace Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa.) picked up a hat-trick and also recorded one assist and a trio of freshman chipped in with two points each – Lana Hayes (Toms River, N.J.) and Reese Ripley (Denver, Colo.) with two goals apiece and Amber Fields (St. Augustine, Fla.) with a goal and an assist.
 
Junior goalie Karianna Eagle (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) had two saves on the night to record the victory. Wysong tied for the game-high with five draw controls, while Ripley recorded four DCs and scooped up a team-best four ground balls. Picozzi, Wysong and freshman Juliet Trouse (Riverdale, N.J.) all caused three turnovers apiece.
 
For the Golden Eagles, graduate student Emma Lange had three goals and sophomore Sabrina Doyle picked up three assists. Junior goalie Maggie Harding made nine saves and led all players on the night with six ground balls. Junior Megan Spina recorded a game-high five caused turnovers.
 
Up next, the Mariners will host the University of Mount St. Vincent this Saturday afternoon, April 12, for their Senior Day. Opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. The ceremony should begin at approximately 1:45 p.m. and be viewed at this link.
