Men’s Lacrosse Suffers Home Loss To Salve Regina Tuesday Afternoon

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 11, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team lost its home non-conference showdown with Salve Regina University, 24-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Brooks Stadium. The setback drops the Mariners' record to 3-1, while the Seahawks improve to 6-1 with the win.

Game Links Sophomore Owen Behr (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) led USMMA with five points, as he scored four goals and recorded one assist. Senior Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) and junior Owen Barcus (Annapolis, Md.) both had three points apiece, with Collins scoring twice and dishing out one helper and Barcus finding the back of the net once to go along with one assist.

Sophomore Owen Ring (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshmen Landon Locke (Midlothian, Va.) and William Schipfer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also scored for the Mariners, while senior Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.) and juniors Christian Meyers (Miller Place, N.Y.) and William Badeer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) all had one assist apiece.

Schipfer led Merchant Marine with five ground balls and sophomore goalie Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) made seven saves in the losing effort. Garcia, Collins and junior Michael Valentine IV (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) all picked up three groundballs each.

Behr scored the first two goals of the game in the opening six minutes and a tally by Collins made it 3-1 in favor of KP with just under four minutes left in the first. Salve Regina responded with two quick ones to tie the game at 3-3, but a late goal by Locke gave the Mariners a 4-3 lead they carried into the break at the end of the first.

The Seahawks started to distance themselves with six-straight goals to start the second quarter to take a 9-4 lead before the two teams scored one after the other after the other. This trend continued even into the third quarter until it was 13-9 in favor of the visitors, but then Salve went on to score six unanswered and 11 of the last 12 goals

Two players recorded a game-high eight points each for the Seahawks as junior Chris Koltzan  scored six times and had two assists and classmate Daniel Naglieri registered three goals and five helpers. Four other Salve players had multi-point efforts on the afternoon. Junior Adam Laber won an impressive 16-of-18 faceoffs and led all players on the day with seven ground balls. Sophomore goalie Andrew Hazard earned the victory after stopping seven USMMA shots in over 57 minutes of action.

Up next, Merchant Marine travels to Union, N.J., this Saturday, March 15, where the Mariners will take on Kean University. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Cougars' Alumni Stadium.
