Â
USMMA answered immediately to open the second quarter. Mustain connected with Endicott for a 41-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 just 32 seconds into the period. After WPI reclaimed the lead on McGraw's second score, the Mariners responded again when Bonte burst 46 yards to the end zone to even things at 14-14 at 7:16. The defense then produced a key takeaway, as Graham forced a fumble recovered by junior
Armondo Orcesi (Dexter, N.Y.) setting up a late-half surge. With under a minute left, Mustain hit Callahan for a 23-yard score to give Merchant Marine its first lead, 21-14, heading into halftime.

The Mariners seized control with a statement drive to start the second half. They marched 83 yards on 23 plays, chewing 10:09 off the clock, and capped the possession when Mustain pushed across from two yards out to extend the lead to 27-14. The drive featured steady gains from Ferris, Bonte, and sophomore
Dallas DeForest (Santa Ynez, Calif.), as USMMA converted five third downs along the way. The defense followed with a quick stop, highlighted by a sack from Laux, to keep the momentum squarely with the Mariners.
Â
Mustain put the game out of reach early in the fourth, breaking free for an 80-yard run and then finishing the drive himself with a three-yard touchdown that made it 34-14. Merchant Marine continued to dominate possession behind its deep rushing rotation, including carries from sophomore
Will Surdez (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Endicott, while the defense piled up sacks from Laux and the combo of Hauser and Laureano to seal the win.
