Mariners Tie Sarah Lawrence, Clinch First-Round Bye In Skyline Tournament

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against Sarah Lawrence in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Bartoszek Field, securing a first-round bye in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament. The Mariners move to 9-3-4 overall and 8-0-3 in conference play, ensuring they cannot finish lower than second in the Skyline standings now with 27 points.

Game Link The Mariners struck first in the 15th minute when senior Emma Cox (Huntingtown, Md.) sent a cross into the box that sophomore Lillia Miller (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) looped high over the leaping SLC keeper, who got a piece of the ball after it hit the bottom of the crossbar, but lucky enough for the Mariners, the ball hit the GK and just crossed over the goal line.

The Gryphons found the equalizer just over seven minutes later on a finish from Hannah Chaffin off a setup from Emma Mangan, and the teams played scoreless the rest of the way.

Sophomore goalkeeper Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) made eight saves to preserve the draw, marking her ninth result without defeat in Skyline play. USMMA and Sarah Lawrence each recorded 13 shots, while the Mariners held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks

The Mariners now have off until the Skyline Semifinal round on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at home. More information on the upcoming Skyline Tournament will be posted on our social media pages (links below) and www.USMMASports.com in the coming week-plus.
