Men’s Soccer Upends Sarah Lawrence On Senior Day To Earn First-Round Bye In Skyline Tourney

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team erupted for a season-high eight goals in a commanding 8-1 Skyline Conference victory over Sarah Lawrence on Senior Day Saturday at Bartoszek Field. With the win, the Mariners improved to 12-3-3 overall (8-1-2 Skyline), while the Gryphons fell to 4-10-3 (1-8-4 Skyline). USMMA also guarantees itself a first-round bye in the upcoming Skyline Tournament, as the Mariners cannot finish below second place now with 26 points.

Game Links Prior to kickoff, the Mariners held a special Senior Day ceremony to honor managers Billy Castoro and Wes Ferry, Drew Boukidis (Charlotte, N.C.),  Tyson Mallas (Los Angeles, Calif.), Jack Ouellette (Alexandria, Va.), Michael Hofstetter (Deer Park, N.Y.), John Germain (Cornwall, N.Y.) and Colin Mushorn (Massapequa, N.Y.)

Ouellette and Boukidis each scored twice to lead the attack, while sophomore Robert Derwin (East Meadow, N.Y.) dished out a career-best three assists in the victory.

Ouellette opened the scoring just over five minutes in off a feed from Derwin, before Boukidis doubled the lead three minutes later on assists from Derwin and Hofstetter. The Gryphons converted a penalty in the 43rd minute to pull within one, but Ouellette responded just 56 seconds later with his second of the day to send the Mariners into halftime ahead 3-1.

USMMA poured it on after the break, scoring five more times in the second half. Freshmen Ethan Schuette (Gig Harbor, Wash.) scored his second career goal, while classmates Charlie Safe (Boise, Idaho) and JP Park (Falling Waters, W.Va.) both had the first goals of their career. Sophomore Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich.) tallied his team-leading 10th marker of the season.

Hofstetter (2x), Mushorn, Ouellette and junior Brendan Farrell (Annapolis, Md.) also picked up assists on the afternoon, as 12 different Mariners recorded at least one point on the day.

Junior goalkeeper Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.) earned the win before giving way to classmate James Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.), who closed out the match in goal. USMMA dominated statistically, holding a 26-6 advantage in total shots and 7-3 in corner kicks.

The Mariners now have off until the Skyline Semifinal round on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at home. More information on the upcoming Skyline Tournament will be posted on our social media pages (links below) and www.USMMASports.com in the coming week-plus.
