KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team stormed back from a two-set deficit to defeat visiting St. Joseph's-Long Island, 3–2 (14-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-9), on Wednesday night at Liebertz Gymnasium. The dramatic reverse sweep lifted the Mariners to 12-9 overall and 6-2 in Skyline Conference play, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 11-5 (5-2 Skyline).

Carly Soboloski (Peoria, Ariz.) led the attack with 14 kills, 18 digs, and three blocks, while sophomore
Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) added eight kills, 15 digs, two aces, and two blocks.

Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) filled the stat sheet with eight kills, five aces, four blocks, and four digs. Senior
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) anchored the back row with 29 digs and two aces.

Emma Borlie (Baltimore, Md.) dished 27 assists, 12 digs, and two aces, while sophomore
Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was efficient at the net with six kills (.400) and three blocks. Junior

Sofia Dohr (Denver, Colo.) each chipped in nine kills, and junior setter
Alexa Tipps (Cypress, Texas) contributed 14 assists and four digs off the bench.
Set 1 – St. Joseph's (L.I.) 25, USMMA 14 – The visitors set the tone early, capitalizing on six USMMA attack errors to open a 17-7 lead. Despite a pair of kills from Douglas and a late block by Dyke, St. Joseph's controlled the frame and closed it on a kill by Luciana D'Ambrosio.
Set 2 – St. Joseph's (L.I.) 25, USMMA 23 – USMMA battled back from an early 7-1 deficit to tie the set at 9-9 behind kills from Soboloski, Mayer, and Stillinger. Mayer's ace and Soboloski's late kill put the Mariners ahead 20-17, but the Golden Eagles rallied with a 5-1 finish to steal the set 25-23 and take a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3 – USMMA 25, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 21 – The momentum shifted midway through the third. A 7-0 Mariner run highlighted by Soboloski and Stillinger kills, plus a Borlie ace, turned a 5-2 deficit into a 9-7 lead. Soboloski powered the attack late with three more kills, and Mayer's ace sealed the 25-21 win to extend the match.
Set 4 – USMMA 25, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 16 – The Mariners came out firing, racing to a 5-0 start behind Douglas' serving and kills from Dohr and Soboloski. Mayer dominated the frame with four kills and an ace during a 13-2 run that blew it open at 16-5. Schatzman added an ace, and Stillinger's kill closed the set 25-16 to force a decisive fifth.
Set 5 – USMMA 15, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 9 – With the crowd on its feet, the Mariners took control early 7-4 on Soboloski's ace and a Mayer kill. Mayer added another ace to make it 9-5, and kills from Stillinger, Dohr, and Douglas stretched the lead to 13-8. Soboloski capped the comeback with her 14th kill to seal the 15-9 victory and complete the reverse sweep.
St. Joseph's was led by Nina Vanderhoof with 14 kills, while Luciana D'Ambrosio and Alison Tsororos added seven and 12, respectively. Setter Lauren Goss dished 31 assists and Sarah Montefusco had 20 digs.
The Mariners return to action this Friday night, Oct. 24, with their home-finale against Sarah Lawrence. Prior to the 7 p.m. first serve, USMMA will hold a special Senior Night ceremony to honor
