KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2025) – On Wednesday night, the USMMA men's swimming & diving team defeated visiting Purchase College, 190-26, and St. Joseph's-Long Island, 190-68, in a home Skyline tri-meet at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. The two W's improved the Mariners' record to 7-0 (5-0 Skyline).

Sophomore diver
Charlie Williams (Vienna, Va.) hit his first NCAA qualifying mark of the season in a one-meter dive exhibition, as he produced a score of 430.87 in an 11-dive format. He now needs to hit a qualifying mark just one more time in the one-meter board to officially qualify for the NCAA Regional Championship Meet. In the meet format (6-dives), Williams won both the one-meter (250.87) and the three-meter (180.90) diving events on the night.
A pair of Mariner swimmers also earned two victories apiece, as senior
Joseph DeCarlo (Powder Springs, Ga.) touched first in both the 100 backstroke (54.81) and the 200 back (2:01.57) and junior
Teague Mayer (Boulder, Colo.) won the 100 butterfly (52.88) and the 200 individual medley (1:56.60).

Cody Lay (Bartlesville, Okla.), Mayer, sophomore
Jacob Socarras (Winter Springs, Fla.) and freshman
Trevor Dash (Ketchikan, Alaska) started off the night with victory in 1:43.16.
Eight other Mariners all recorded individual wins. They are listed below.
- Senior Cal Frame (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) in the 1000 free (12:04.80)
- Grad student Daniel Scherrer (Wellesley, Mass.) in the 200 free (1:46.02)
- Junior Diego Corredor (Fort Myers, Fla.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.82)
- Freshman John Frank (Highland, Md.) in the 200 fly (1:59.60)
- Sophomore Luke Dankert (Grand Island, Neb.) in the 50 free (22.71)
- Sophomore Jason Equiano (Yonkers, N.Y.) in the 100 free (48.89)
- Sophomore Peyton Harbin (Rockwall, Texas) in the 200 breast (2:30.79)
- And freshman Max Fedorenko (Chicago, Ill.) in the 500 free (5:33.80)
Closing out the meet, the 200 free relay team of Scherrer, seniors
Andrew Turbyfill (Fredericksburg, Va.) and
Evan Davis (Bethany Beach, Del.) and freshman
Connor Wheeler (Humble, Texas) touched first in 1:30.60.
The "Mariner of the Meet" honors, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to DeCarlo for the swimmers and Williams for the divers.
Merchant Marine is back in action next Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they host Skyline opponents Purchase and St. Joseph's-Long Island for a tri-meet beginning at 6 p.m. at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool.
