PURCHASE, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team racked up a 13-6 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks, but had to settle for a 0-0 draw on the road against Manhattanville Tuesday night in Skyline Conference action. USMMA moved to 2-1-1 (1-0-1 Skyline) on the season, while Manhattanville saw its record go to 1-1-3 (0-0-1 Skyline).

Margaret Ripperger (McKinney, Texas) made one save to earn the shutout for the Mariners. Manhattanville keeper Macey Girard had two saves for the matching clean sheet.
The Mariners controlled play early, collecting four shots and one corner kick attempt in the opening 13 minutes of play. The USMMA defense, meanwhile, held Manhattanville without a shot until an off-target effort in the 20th minute.
Manhattanville missed wide again before a USMMA attempt in the 31st minute was blocked past the endline for a corner kick, but the Mariners could not take advantage.
USMMA missed wide with one more shot in the 41st minute as the game remained scoreless at the break with neither team registering a shot on goal.
The crossbar helped keep the Valiants off the board in the 50th minute before Ripperger made her lone save of the game on an attempt in the 62nd minute.
The Mariners followed with a good look in the 72nd minute as sophomore
Alexx Forman (Cincinnati, Ohio) put a header on-goal, but it was stopped. The chances continued for USMMA as a corner kick in the 83rd minute led to a header from sophomore
Faith Sammons (Aubrey, Texas) that sailed wide.
USMMA had one final chance to tally the game-winner in the 88th minute as Forman tested Girard yet again. The keeper made the stop, however, and the game ended 0-0.
The Mariners return to action on Sept. 21 with a 2 p.m. home game against Old Westbury at Tomb Field.
