Farmingdale State got on the board first in the 27th minute when a shot by Jean Mejia was deflected by a USMMA defender and trickled past sophomore keeper
Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.). The score remained 1-0 into the halftime break despite the Mariners outshooting the Rams, 8-5.
Within 10 minutes of the start of the second half, the visitors had tripled their lead after Mejia notched his second of the day in the 50th minute, followed by a tally off the post and in by Daniel Rivas in the 53rd minute that made it 3-0.
Merchant Marine didn't go down quietly, though, as senior
Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.) got the Mariners on the board with a header goal in the 78th minute off a cross from the near-side by junior
Drew Boukidis (Charlotte, N.C.).
Shortly after, the Mariners had three great chances, but a shot point-blank by junior
Billy Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.) was stopped by FSC keeper Rocco Dispinseri and then two close attempts by sophomore
Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) sailed high of the net.
Farmingdale sealed the victory with an 86th minute marker by Olvin Yanes.
Howell finished the day with seven saves in the losing effort, while Dispinseri made six stops for the victory.
