KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2024) – The USMMA football team lost its season-finale on Saturday against arch-rival Coast Guard, 42-21, in the 44th Annual Secretaries' Cup at Tomb Field. The Mariners close out the season with a 5-4 (3-4 NEWMAC) record, while the Bears improve to 5-5 (3-4 NEWMAC) with the win.

Senior wide receiver
Talsen Smith (Roseville, Calif.) closed out his career by becoming the first Mariner ever to reach the 1,000 receiving yard plateau for a single season. He finished the day with 11 catches for 114 yards. Junior
Gervy Alota (San Diego, Calif.) threw for 109 yards on 10-of-15 passing, while also rushing for a team-best 91 yards on 23 attempts with one touchdown that tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter.
Also scoring on the day were seniors
James Menor (Gresham, Ore.) on a seven-yard run in the third and
Jayden Colon (Bay Shore, N.Y.) on a beautiful diving grab in the end zone on an 11-yard pass from freshman QB
Bubba Mustain (Oro Valley, Ariz.) in the fourth.
Defensively, senior
C.J. Livesay (Morristown, Tenn.) had a team-high 12 tackles and sophomore
Zatyk Holub (Mount Vernon, Iowa) had an interception.
Turnovers were not kind to the Mariners today, as they lost the ball three times on one interception and two fumbles and all ensuing possessions for Coast Guard turned into touchdowns.
For the Bears, senior Joey Armentrout recorded 259 yards on 22-of-26 passing with three touchdowns and the one interception. Sophomore Matthew LaBouliere made seven catches for 130 yards and found the end zone twice. On defense, sophomore Ramon Cruz had a game-high 13 tackles.
