NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 25, 2024) – On Friday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team competed in Central Connecticut State University's Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park. The Mariners were the only D3 squad in the field of 10 teams, with the other nine schools participating being from Division 1.
The meet featured two short races, a "sub-varsity" 5K and a championship "varsity" 5K.

Junior
Luke Zwiesler (Colbert, Wash.) produced a top-30 finish, as he earned 25 team points after crossing the finish line in 30th with a time of 15:20.9. Classmate
Silas Glynn (Folsom, Calif.) was the Mariners' next runner to finish in 16:03.2.
The next five runners to cross were all just under two minutes apart, as senior
Alex Burita (Annandale, Va.) ran a 16:50.1, sophomore
Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho) crossed in 17:00.4, senior
Michael Lyon (Jacksonville, Fla.) produced a time of 17:21.5, senior
Blake Giannamore (Portland, Texas) came in at 17:51.4 and junior
Alex Virostek (Silver Lake, Ohio) rounded out the bunch with a time of 18:28.0.
In the "sub-varsity" race that took place first, freshman
Ethan Alliot (Sheridan, Wy.) was the first Mariner to finish the 5K, coming in a 17:51.9.
The Skyline Championship Meet is up next on the schedule for USMMA, and that will take place next Sunday, Nov. 3, at Bethpage Polo at the Park in nearby Bethpage, N.Y. The men's 8K race is scheduled to get underway at 12-noon.
