PURCHASE, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team lost on the road at Manhattanville University, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon up at GoValiants.com Field. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 8-5-2 (5-2-2 Skyline), while the reigning conference champion Valiants improve to 8-6-1 (6-1 Skyline) with the victory.

Junior Tyson Mallas (Los Angeles, Calif.) opened the scoring with a tally in the 58th minute assisted by senior Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.).
 
Manhattanville came back in the second half, howver, with markers just seven minutes apart in the 64th and 71st minutes to flip the momentum.
 
Sophomore keeper Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.) made three saves over the 90 minutes, while his counterpart for the Valiants, senior Jake Rothluebbers, had one stop to earn the win between the pipes.
 
Up next, the Mariners welcome in Skyline Conference rival SUNY Maritime on Tuesday night, Oct. 22 to Bartoszek Field for their annual 142 Game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
