BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2023) – The USMMA women's volleyball team swept Skyline Conference foe St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 25-16, 25-13, 25-9, Thursday night on the road at the Bears' Hill Center Gymnasium. The victory was the Mariners' second straight and improves their record to 4-5 (2-1 Skyline). St. Joe's falls to 3-3 (1-1 Skyline) after suffering the loss.

Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) led all players on the night with 13 kills on 20 attempts with no errors for a very impressive .650 hitting percentage. She served up a match-high five aces to go along with seven digs on the night. Classmate
Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) added nine kills one .500 hitting with four aces, while freshman setter
Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) dished out 26 assists and sophomore libero
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up 10 digs.
Merchant Marine forced the Bears to hit in the negative, as the hosts put up a -.028 clip on the evening compared to the Mariners' season-best .286.
For St. Joseph's, Martina Urgo recorded a team-best four kills, Rachel Meltsin registered 12 assists and Autumn Poppett led the Bears with five digs.
The Mariners are back in action this Saturday, Sept. 30, when they take part in a tri-match hosted by Vassar College up in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. They will take on the William Smith College Herons (6-6) at 2 p.m. followed by the host Brewers of Vassar (6-6) at 4:30 p.m. Live stats and a live video feeds of both matches are available with links on
