Five Mariners Register Multi-Hit Games In 12-3 Victory Against Baruch

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (April 18, 2023) – The USMMA baseball team scored in all but two innings and saw eight starters register at least one hit in a 12-3 road win against Baruch. USMMA improves to 15-10 with the win, while Baruch now sits at 7-11. Freshman Ernest Darling (Highland, Ill.) had three RBI and extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a 2-for-6 effort to help lead USMMA. Junior Tyler Reistetter (Dickinson, Texas) finished 3-for-6 with an RBI and four runs scored, while senior Jared Chambers (Houston, Texas) was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Junior Jay Piotrowski (Montgomery, Texas) earned the win (1-0) after surrendering just one unearned run and striking out five in 3.0 innings of work.

Senior Joey Zanetti (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Jack Millen (Shelby, N.C.) led off the game with back-to-back singles and the Mariners took advantage of an error to plate a pair of unearned runs in the first. USMMA extended its lead to 3-0 in the second as another Baruch error led to another unearned run.

The Mariners pushed the lead to 4-0 in the third as Darling extended his hitting streak with an RBI triple.

Baruch made it a 4-1 ballgame in the home half of the third as a dropped third strike with two outs extended the inning and led to an RBI single.

USMMA responded by batting around as part of a three-run fifth. Reistetter led off with a triple and Chambers followed with an RBI single. Sophomore Garrett Clapsaddle (Murphy, N.C.) then reached on a two-base error that allowed Chambers to score and junior Brice Garner (Fort Collins, Colo.) gave the Mariners a 7-1 lead with an RBI single. A pair of walks loaded the bases, but Baruch escaped further damage with an inning-ending strikeout.

The Mariners continued to build their lead in the sixth as a Chambers sacrifice fly and a Darling RBI double pushed the advantage to 9-1, but Baruch got two runs back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI groundout and a wild pitch.

USMMA tacked on another two runs in the seventh as Millen added a sacrifice fly before Darling made it 11-3 with an RBI fielder's choice. A Reistetter RBI double in the eighth created the final 12-3 margin.

The USMMA baseball team returns to action on April 22, traveling to face Purchase for an 11 a.m. Skyline doubleheader. Live stats will be available on USMMASports.com with links on the USMMA Baseball Schedule Page.
