NEW LONDON, Conn. (March 28, 2023) – The USMMA baseball team scored at least 10 runs for the fourth time in as many games and also extended its winning streak to four with a 12-2 triumph against Coast Guard. USMMA improved to 10-5 with the victory, while Coast Guard moved to 5-8.

Jared Chambers (Houston, Texas) finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run and three RBI to lead USMMA, while classmate
Joey Zanetti (Richmond, Va.) was 2-for-6 with two RBI and sophomore
Garrett Clapsaddle (Murphy, N.C.) added an RBI as part of a 3-for-4 effort. Sophomore
Jacob Syversen (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) started and allowed just one run in 6.0 innings of work for the victory. The righty (3-1) had six strikeouts and retired the final nine batters he faced.

USMMA plated a run in the first, but Coast Guard answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game. The Mariners, however, responded in the second with the first of back-to-back three-run innings. After USMMA loaded the bases with one out, Zanetti ripped a two-run double to right before sophomore
Jack Millen (Shelby, N.C.) made it a 4-1 ballgame with a sacrifice fly.

A Chambers home run led off the third as three more runs gave the Mariners a 7-1 advantage. Freshman
Ernest Darling (Highland, Ill.) added an RBI single in the frame, while sophomore
Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.) had a sacrifice fly.

The Mariners tacked on two more runs in the sixth before consecutive bases-loaded walks aided a three-run eighth that made it 12-1.

Freshman
Ryan Felton (Granbury, Texas) and classmate
Caden Pierce (Marietta, Ga.) each tossed 1.0 scoreless inning of relief for the Mariners.
