KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2023) – The USMMA Mariners women's basketball team could not have written a better Senior Day script en route to their 12th-straight victory with a wire-to-wire 69-40 victory over Old Westbury on Saturday. Merchant Marine improved to 22-2 (16-2 Skyline) with the win, while the Panthers ended their season at 2-21 (0-18 Skyline).

Senior Day 2023 honored four hard-working players on head coach
Matt Dempsey's club. Seniors
Natalie Dorsey (Westminster, Md.),
Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.),
Cadee Fromm (Enid, Okla.), and
Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) were all given the starting nod in their final regular season home game, and everyone made an impact.
Of USMMA's 69 points, the four seniors accounted for 48 of them. Merchant Marine's seniors combined to shoot 43% thanks to a 21-for-49 mark.
Everything that the Mariners wanted to happen in this game certainly did. Making her second career start, Dorsey came into the game with a career-high of three points. In the snap of her fingers, Dorsey set a new career-high with seven points, all in the first half, thanks to shooting 3-for-7. And one of those three makes was a long triple that brought the Mariners' bench to their feet.
For Fromm, her first career start turned out to be the game of her career. It was an afternoon that saw her drop a career-high in points and rebounds. Fromm nearly concocted a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. All six feet and two inches of Fromm were on display as she was a force to be reckon with in the paint. Two blocks and three steals for the senior had the Mariners' bench smiling ear-to-ear.
Senior Day was just like any other basketball game for Hunter, who notched her 18th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Hunter ends the regular season as the Skyline Conference's leading scorer with 489 points and leading rebounder with 308.
Very fittingly, Demos was the game's leading scorer with a season-high 17 points on a very efficient 8-for-14 day from the field. Five assists and five steals by Demos aided in engineering the Mariners' offense all afternoon long. After the game, Demos noted the importance of how this team has been through a lot over the years and how it meant so much for all four seniors to leave their fingerprints all over today's win.
With the regular season in their rearview mirror and the Skyline Conference Tournament in their sights, USMMA will seek to make it to a fourth-straight Skyline Finals. As a top-two seed, the Mariners will get a well-dissevered first-round bye before returning to the court on Thursday night for the Skyline Semifinals at Liebertz Gymnasium. The full seeding for the Skyline Tournament has yet to be announced by the conference, so Merchant Marine's opponent in the Skyline Semifinals is to be determined.
Thursday's Skyline Semifinal matchup will feature live stats and a live video feed, which will be available with links on
the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
