Mariners Advance To Skyline Semifinals With Sweep Over Mount St. Mary

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2023) – The #3-seed USMMA women's volleyball team secured a three-set win over #5-seed Mount St. Mary inside an energetic Liebertz Gymnasium on Tuesday night to advance to the Skyline Semifinals this coming Thursday evening against St. Joseph's-Long Island. The victory improved the Mariners' record to 14-11 on the year, while the Knights close out the season 6-23.
 
Match Links Senior Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) paced all Mariners on the offensive side of the ball with 13 kills on 22 swings (.409) in her final home match. Another senior Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) finished just behind Buchanan with 12 kills, while freshman Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas) chipped in eight kills along with a pair of service aces, and Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) hammered home six more kills.
 
Freshman Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Ca.) cracked the 30-assist plateau for the 14th time in 25 matches, finishing with 37 helpers. Stephanie Schatzmann (Virginia Beach, Va.) turned in another strong defensive performance with 16 digs, while Buchanan dug out seven balls, and Breland added four more. Stillinger and Buchanan each registered four block assists, while Jones and Tipps had a pair each.
 
Collectively, the Mariners hit .353 for the match, finishing with a red-hot third set where USMMA hit .519.
 
Sophomore Jonaiya Williams (Middletown, N.Y.) led the Knights with eight kills, but registered just a .059 hitting percentage. Classmate Ava DiScala (Seaford, N.Y.) ended the night with seven kills, and fellow sophomore Brooke Lavelle (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied four more kills. Sophomore Aubriana Boyce (Middletown, N.Y.) dished out 20 assists for the Knights and freshman libero Vanessa Mleczko (Bristol, Ill.) led Mount St. Mary with eight digs.
 
IMPORTANT SEMIFINAL TICKET INFORMATION Tickets for the Skyline Semifinal matchup against St. Joseph's-Long Island up at Manhattanville on Thursday night are now available for purchase from the Skyline Conference. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for seniors 65+ and children 12 and under. Students with ID will be admitted for free. All purchases can be made online at this link. The Skyline encourages fans to buy their tickets before arriving to Manhattanville on Thursday. All tickets must be purchased online. No cash will be accepted.
 
The Mariners' postseason continues on Thursday evening, Nov. 9, against #2-seed St. Joseph's-Long Island (15-10) in the Skyline Semifinals, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Kennedy Gymnasium on the campus of Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.
