OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 2, 2023) – The USMMA women's volleyball team quickly put its rough weekend behind them with a three-set sweep of Skyline foe Old Westbury on Monday night, 25-10, 25-21, 25-16. The Mariners improve to 5-7 (3-1 Skyline) with the victory, while the Panthers fall to 1-11 (0-3 Skyline) in defeat.

Merchant Marine hit at a season-high .395 clip with 42 kills and just eight errors on 86 total attempts.
 
Senior Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) led all players on the night with 13 kills on .440 hitting as part of a double-double effort with 12 digs. Freshman setter Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) had her second-highest assist total of the season, and best performance in a three-set match with 38 helpers. Senior Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) added to the offense with 12 kills on .450 hitting and sophomore Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded a match-high 13 digs.
 
Senior Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) hit at a .625 clip with five kills on eight attempts and freshman Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas) registered a .533 hitting percentage with eight kills on 15 attempts.
 
For the Panthers, sophomore Stephanie Maser had a team-best nine kills and just missed out on a double-double with 11 digs. Junior Geanelle Sam dished out 16 assists and sophomore Stephanie Velez picked up 10 digs.
 
Up next, the Mariners welcome in Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday night, Oct. 4, for its annual 142 Match. Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium.
