KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2022) – The USMMA men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against the Violets of New York University on Saturday afternoon at Bartoszek Field. Chase Miller (Boise, Id.) made six saves to keep the game scoreless.

Perhaps the game's best scoring chance came at the 8:26 mark of the first half. Miller stretched out his left foot on a point-blank chance to rob NYU's Arkan Tahsildaroghu. USMMA's defense picked up their keeper by allowing only one shot on goal the rest of the first half.

Merchant Marine's lockdown defense nearly turned to offense as the Mariners' transition game and speed were put on display. Junior

Shots for the game were 12-8 in favor of the Violets and NYU also led in shots on goal 6-1.
What is most important about USMMA's tie is the growth it will allow on the club. NYU has recently received votes for the Top 25, and showed why this afternoon despite being shut out. For a Mariners team that has 11 freshman on the roster, a 0-0 tie against a team as highly regarded as the Violets is a huge stepping stone for the program.
