Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mariners Draw Yet Again, This Time At Farmingdale, 0-0

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2022) – For the fourth time this season (and third time to open Skyline Conference action), the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team played to a tie, as the contest on Saturday afternoon between the Mariners and Farmingdale State College resulted in a scoreless draw. USMMA's record moves to 3-2-4 (0-0-3 Skyline), while the Rams move to 2-4-1 (0-1-1 Skyline).

Game Link Farmingdale held the advantage in shots, 12-6, including a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Senior keeper Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho) recorded his fourth shutout (third solo) after turning aside all seven of the Rams' shots on target.

For the hosts, senior keeper Justin Silva made three saves to finish with the blank sheet.

Just 5:15 in, FSC senior Luke Kasulke nearly put the Rams ahead, as his shot from 30 yards out hit the crossbar.

A little over six minutes later, freshman Drew Boukidis (Matthews, N.C.) was stopped on a diving save by Silva.

On the ensuing Merchant Marine corner kick, Silva drew a foul to end the threat and give Farmingdale State possession.

In the 20th minute, Rams' senior Michael Lanouette received a pass near the box from junior Wilmer Dominguez, but Miller made a diving stop of his own.

Only 19 seconds later, Miller made another save on a header from FSC senior Brandon Balcaceres, and the game remained scoreless.

Neither team attempted another shot as the contest headed into the halftime break, 0-0.

Early in the second half, Balcaceres was stopped twice by Miller before Silva made a save on a shot by freshman Clayton Ecalono (Pleasant Grove, Utah).

With 15:37 remaining, Silva punched out an attempt by freshman Billy Castoro (Garden City, N.Y.). The Rams picked up the ball and quickly rushed up the field with Kasulke sending one on net 26 seconds later.

FSC took the final shot on goal with only 2:48 left to play. Junior Vinny Terrone gathered a loose ball in the box and took a shot from five yards out that was halted by Miller.

The Mariners return to action this Tuesday, Sept. 27, when they play host to the College of Mount St. Vincent. That game will be played on Tomb Field at Brooks Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. Live stats and a live video feed of the contest will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
