KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 30, 2022) – The USMMA baseball team fell in a pair of games Sunday afternoon to Skyline Conference foe Farmingdale State. The Mariners lost in extras in the opener, 5-4, before a 5-2 decision in the finale. Sophomore
Tyler Reistetter (Dickinson, Texas) hit his first home run of the season for the Mariners' game-two runs.

Farmingdale State (21-11, 13-5 Skyline) built an early 3-0 lead in the third inning of game one with a trio of unearned runs. Merchant Marine (21-17, 11-7 Skyline) struck back in their half of the frame with a pair of runs as both Reistetter and junior
Jared Chambers (Houston, Texas) registered RBI singles. The Rams pushed their advantage to 4-2 in the fourth but
Kole Register (Virginia Beach, Va.) worked out of a bases loaded jam to limit the damage. Register finished his day on the mount with a line of eight innings, five runs (two earned), and three strikeouts.
Â
USMMA knotted it at 4-4 in the fifth as Chambers plated both Reistetter and freshman
Derek Vanasse (Camarillo, Calif.), who both drew walks earlier in the inning, with a double down the left field line. The Mariners had a runner in scoring position in the seventh but could not convert, sending the game to extra innings. Farmingdale State got what would prove to be the game winner with one out in the eighth on a Bobby Pollock solo home run over the right field fence.
Â
Merchant Marine responded immediately to a Rams first-inning tally with a two-run homer from Reistetter in their half of the opening frame. Junior
Joey Zanetti (Richmond, Va.) started the inning with a double and later a Chambers single would force the Rams starter from the game having recorded just one out. Farmingdale State tied it at two in the fourth inning on a Daniel Molina bloop RBI-single into right field.
Â
The Rams hung three runs in the fifth inning behind two walks, two infield singles, and an error to grab a 5-2 advantage. Joe Merino pitched three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief for Farmingdale State to pick up the win.
Â
Up next for the Mariners is another massive in-conference doubleheader tomorrow at Manhattanville in the regular season finale. Both teams will be looking to secure seeding in the upcoming Skyline Conference tournament. First pitch is scheduled for noon in Purchase, N.Y.
