NEWPORT, R.I. (March 13, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team suffered an 11-7 road loss to Salve Regina University on Sunday afternoon. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to an even 2-2 on the year, while the Seahawks improve to 1-2 with the win.

Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) and freshman
Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.). Freshman
Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) added a goal and an assist and senior
Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.) had two helpers. Junior goalie
Samuel Stephenson (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded 16 saves in the losing effort. Defensively, freshman
Chris Neuman (South Huntington, N.Y.) caused three turnovers and sophomore
Mark Bredeck (Severna Park, Md.) picked up a team-best six groundballs.
Merchant Marine held a 4-3 lead after the first quarter, but the Seahawks scored the next five goals to start the second. The Mariners added one more before the end of the half to go into the break down 8-5. The two teams alternated goals in the third, each scoring two times, and Salve Regina had the only tally of the fourth. The Seahawks were dominant in the faceoff-X, winning 17-of-21 draws on the day.
The Mariners are back home next Saturday, March 19, against SUNY Poly beginning at 12-noon at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
