NEW LONDON, Conn. (Feb. 9, 2022) – The USMMA wrestling team was defeated on the road at #9 Coast Guard, 30-12, on Wednesday night in the Mariners' final dual meet of the season. The loss drops Merchant Marine's record to 5-5 on the year, while the Bears improve to 7-1 with the victory.
 
Coast Guard quickly jumped out to a 12-0 lead after a pair of forfeit wins at 125 and 133. Freshman Eddie Pinc (Medina, Ohio) got the Mariners on the board with a 9-8 decision at 141, but the Bears' lead was extended to 20 points, 23-3, after two-straight decisions at 149 and 157 and a tech. fall at 165.
 
Senior Dominick Esposito (Marlboro, N.J.) pinned Coast Guard junior and regionally-ranked #5 David McCullough in just 49 seconds at 174 for USMMA's biggest win of the night.
 
After a major decision at 184 and a decision at 197 by the Bears, freshman Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) finished things on a good note for the Mariners with a 9-5 decision victory at 285.

The Mariners will be back on the mats this Saturday, Feb. 12, when they take part in the 2022 Centennial Conference Championships, hosted by Johns Hopkins down in Baltimore, Md. Action is set to get underway at 10 a.m. at JHU's Goldfarb Gymnasium.
