KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 5, 2022) – After five-straight home games to start the season, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team finally played a road game on Monday night and defeated non-conference opponent Hunter College, 77-44, at the Hawks' Hunter Sportsplex Gym. The victory improved the Mariners' record to 5-1, while Hunter fell to 5-5 in defeat.

Four different players scored in double-digits for USMMA, with senior
Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) leading all players on the night with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds, while fellow senior
Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) recorded a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 boards.
Sophomore
Grace Jackson (Parma, Idaho) and junior
Bryanne Buchanan-Cummings (Dacula, Ga.) both added 12 points apiece, as Jackson flirted with a triple-double with nine rebounds and eight assists. Sophomore
Kaira Winston (Chesterfield, Va.) contributed eight points and five assists in the victory.
The Mariners never trailed in the game, as they built up a double-digit lead in the first quarter and it never dropped down below 10 the rest of the night, as they cruised to the non-conference victory.
For the Hawks, Eliah Yode had a team-best 10 points, while Alexa Charles brought down a team-high five rebounds, while also leading all players with four steals.
The Mariners return to action on Wednesday night, Dec. 7, on the road at Skyline Conference opponent Farmingdale State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Rams' Lynch Sports Center. Live stats and a live video feed of both games will be available with links on
