Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Mariners Score Season-High 83 Points In Road Victory Over Yeshiva

NEW YORK (Dec. 14, 2022) – The USMMA women's basketball team defeated Skyline Conference opponent Yeshiva University, 83-50, on Wednesday night at Baruch's ARC Arena. The 83 points scored were the most by the Mariners thus far this season, and the victory improves their record to 9-1 (5-1 Skyline), while the Maccabees fall to 5-7 (4-6 Skyline) in defeat. The 33-point win also ties the season-high for Merchant Marine.

Game File Senior Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) had her second-straight 20-point game, as she led all players with 26 points and recorded her team-leading seventh (and fourth-straight) double-double as she brought down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Sophomore Abby Stramski (Jones, Okla.) had a great night, as she recorded career-highs with 19 points, five 3-pointers and six assists. Senior Madison Demos (Downers Grove, Ill.) finished with nine points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Kaira Winston (Chesterfield, Va.) and freshman Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) both added six points apiece, with Winston also dishing out a game-high eight assists.

The Mariners led from wire-to-wire, building up an eight-point advantage six minutes into the game before hitting double-digits at the end of the first quarter, 27-17. After a few early Yeshiva baskets to start the second stanza, USMMA went back up by 10 on a layup by Hunter (assisted by Winston) and never had the lead drop back under double-digits the rest of the night, as they cruised to the victory.

For the Macs, senior Yuval Nitzan led three players in double-figures with 19 points, as part of a double-double effort with 10 rebounds. Classmates Daniella Rothman and Gabrielle Kupferman both drained 10 points apiece.

The Mariners have closed out the 2022 portion of their schedule and will pick action back up in the New Year, when they start an eight-game road trip with a Skyline contest at St. Joseph's-Long Island on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Golden Eagles' Danzi Athletic Center. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Basketball Schedule Page.
