KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2022) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team lost in straight-sets to visiting Manhattanville College in the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship Match on Saturday afternoon inside a packed and loud Liebertz Gymnasium. The defeat ends the Mariners' season with a 15-7 record, while the Valiants improve to 24-6 and earn the Skyline's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins next weekend.

One positive that came out of the match for USMMA was senior
Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) reaching the 1,000 career assist plateau. She needed 13 coming into today and notched the milestone assist during a great Mariner stretch in the second set. The senior finished the day with a double-double, 23 assists and 11 digs, and finishes her career with 1,010 assists.

Junior
Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) led the Mariner attack with eight kills, while classmate
Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) put down six kills. They both tied for the match-high with 17 digs apiece.

For the Valiants, senior setter Vianca Vital was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Tournament, as she finished the day with 36 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Ayla Ruiz led all players on the afternoon with 20 kills on .385 hitting and, like Vital, she and grad. student Alejandra Figueroa both had double-doubles, as Ruiz picked up 10 digs and Figueroa had 10 kills and 12 digs.
