KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2022) – The College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) announced the Academic All-District® honorees for football on Tuesday and USMMA seniors C.J. Mustain (Oro Valley, Ariz.) and Connor Caffrey (Spokane Valley, Wash.) as well as juniors Nathan Mars (Scarborough, Maine) and Cole Simmons (Montrose, Colo.) were four of just 16 football players from the NEWMAC Conference to be honored.

The 2022 Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form. No student-athlete is eligible until he has completed one full calendar year at his current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Mustain is a Maritime Logistics & Security major who was the Mariners' starting defensive end and was selected as the 2022 NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Year and to the First Team All-NEWMAC.

Caffrey is a Marine Engineering & Shipyard Management major who was the Mariners' starting safety. Like Mustain, he was also a First Team All-NEWMAC selection in 2022.

Mars is a Marine Engineering Systems major and was the Mariners' starting left guard during the 2022 season.

Simmons is a Maritime Logistics & Security major and played a key role in the Mariners' special teams game and run game throughout the year.
