Mariners Quickly Win Against Purchase At Home On Tuesday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2022) – On Tuesday night, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team quickly took care of business against visiting Skyline Conference opponent Purchase College, 3-0, at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The victory was the Mariners' fifth-straight and moved their record to 13-6 (9-1 Skyline), while the Panthers fell to 3-17 (2-8 Skyline) in defeat.
 
Match Links Set scores for the contest were 25-1, 25-7 and 25-10.

Senior Paige Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit .500 on the night (9-for-18), leading all players in the match with nine kills. Junior Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) added six kills on .417 hitting with six digs and a match-high three blocks, and classmate Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) had four kills on five attempts for a match-best .800 hitting percentage, while also dishing out seven assists.
 
Senior Claire Hyun (Issaquah, Wash.) recorded a double-double with 17 kills and a match-high 10 digs, while classmate Skyler Burnham (Reading, Pa.) picked up nine digs and led all players on the night with four service aces.
 
As a team, the Mariners had 13 aces. They also hit at a .354 clip and held the Panthers to a -.260 hitting percentage.
 
Purchase finished the match with just eight kills overall, with Samantha Fasce and Lauren White each tallying two apiece.
 
The Mariners hit the road this Thursday, Oct. 27, for the regular season-finale up at Mount St. Mary beginning at 7 p.m. at the Knights' Kaplan Center Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the match will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
