PURCHASE, N.Y. (April 30, 2021) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team clinched the #3 seed in the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament with a 19-8 road win over Purchase College on Saturday night. A total of 10 Mariners found the scoresheet, as Merchant Marine ends the regular season with a 4-2 record (4-2 Skyline). The Panthers finish the year 0-4 (0-4 Skyline).

Senior
Mike Morsberger (Catonsville, Md.) recorded his second nine-point game of the season with five goals and four assists, while also picking up three groundballs. Freshman
Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) had a career-best seven points – finding the back of the net four times and dishing out three helpers, and senior
Nick Alberici (Auburn, N.Y.) produced six points (3G, 3A) with four groundballs.

Two more Mariners had multi-point nights – junior
Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.) added two and two for four points and senior
Michael Carbone (Hamilton, N.J.) had one goal and one assist for two points. Also finding the scoresheet were juniors
Antony DeJulius (Coventry, Conn.),
Lukas Peregoy (Medford, N.Y.) and
Liam Pickett (Charlotte, N.C.) along with freshman
Erich Diehl (Long Valley, N.J.) with goals and junior
Jack Browne (Summit, N.J.) with an assist.

Junior
Jason Aiello (Northport, N.Y.) caused a game-high four turnovers and was second on the squad with six groundballs to lead the defense, while freshmen
Dom Mirack (Stevensville, Md.) and
Bryce U'Selis (Quakertown, Pa.) both had two caused turnovers. A majority of the face-off duties went to Diehl, who won 20-of-29 draws with a game-high nine groundballs, and classmate
Charlie Ross (Lakewood, Colo.) won both face-offs that he took.

The Mariners used all three goalies on the night – senior
Shannon Byrne II (Severna Park, Md.) got the start and earned the victory after making three saves in the first half. Classmate
Brendan Kane (Lewes, Del.) had four stops in under 25 minutes and freshman
Coby Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded one save in the final five minutes-plus.

For Purchase, senior Brendan Johnson tallied five goals and one assists, and classmate Ben Erkan and sophomore Joe Ely both had two-point performances. Freshman Riley Donovan caused two turnovers and tied Ely with a team-high six groundballs. Senior goalie Eamon McGee suffered the loss despite making 14 saves.

The official bracket for the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament will be released later this weekend. The Mariners will be on the road at the #2 seed in the semifinals next Wednesday, May 5. More information on the Skyline semis will be available on
