WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (Nov. 21, 2021) – The USMMA men's basketball team trailed by 20 points early in the second half of their neutral-site matchup against Curry College on the second day of Williams College's Purple & Gold Classic, but the Mariners' flipped the script and claimed a big 76-69 win over the Colonels.
 
The Mariners (2-2) were led by freshman Kody Robinson (Woodbridge, N.J.) who scored 23 points in just 21 minutes of action. Sophomore Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) added 17 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five steals and two blocks.
 
Two other players scored in double-digits for Merchant Marine – freshman Isaac Vencel (Bloomington, Ind.) had 12 points to go along with five boards and senior Blaine McDonough (Marietta, Ga.) drained 11 points and brought down nine rebounds. Fellow senior Jack Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) led all players in the game with 12 boards and four assists.
 
For the Colonels (0-5), sophomore Todd Robinson Jr. had a team-best 16 points and seven rebounds, while junior Angelo Sardegna chipped in with 10 points.
 
Curry held a 47-27 advantage at 18:13 of the second half before the Mariners strung together a remarkable 29-8 run over the next nine minutes to take a 56-55 lead at 7:03. After the Colonels scored the next basket, USMMA went on a 13-1 run to take a double-digit lead, 69-58 at 2:03. The Mariners' advantage didn't fall below six points the rest of the way.
 
Up next, the Mariners will have the holiday week off and will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 1, when they travel up to Skyline North Division foe Mount St. Mary College.
