NEW LONDON, Conn. (Nov. 13, 2021) – The USMMA men's basketball team lost its first game of the season on Saturday on the road at Connecticut College at the Camels' Luce Fieldhouse, 79-57. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 1-1, while Conn College starts the year 1-0 with the victory.
USMMA Notables
- Three players scored in double-figures, as sophomore Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) led all players in the game with 15 points.
- Freshmen DeMarcus Spivey (Ashburn, Va.) and Cam Baldwin (Acworth, Ga.) both added 10 points apiece.
- Senior Jack Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) had a team-best seven rebounds and also chipped in with eight points.
- Spivey led Merchant Marine with four assists.
A Closer Look At The Numbers
- The Camels built up a 10-point lead just nine minutes into the game thanks in part to hitting four three-pointers.
- The hosts finished the first half shooting 43.24% from the field, including 7-for-14 from beyond the arc (50.00%).
- Merchant Marine was outrebounded by a wide margin in the affair, as Conn College won the battle of the boards, 44-28, including 12 offensive rebounds that helped lead to 15 second chance points.
- The Camels finished the game shooting 46.2% (30-for-65) and held the Mariners to just 38.2% (21-for-55).
Conn College's Leaders
- Four players scored in double-figures, with sophomore Jarron Flynn recording a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
- Classmate David Murray led the Camels with 14 points, fellow sophomore Ben Rice added 11 and classmate Billy Whelan had 10 points.
