BRONX, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2021) – The USMMA men's soccer team lost on the road at rival SUNY Maritime College, 1-0, at the Privateers' Reinhart Field in the Mariners' regular season-finale. In defeat, Merchant Marine falls to 10-8 (7-4 Skyline), while Maritime improves to 7-7 (4-6 Skyline) with the win.
 
The game was knotted up at 0-0 for well over 80 minutes, with the Mariners actually outshooting the Privateers, 23-5 overall on the game, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The lone tally of the game came in the 85th minute, when Maritime's junior midfielder Frank Schmidt converted on a corner kick that was taken by senior Thomas Kropp.
 
For USMMA, junior keeper Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho) made one save on the day, while his counterpart for the Privateers' senior Ryan Mathis made six stops to earn the blank sheet.
 
The Mariners have clinched a spot in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championship Tournament, which will begin next Saturday, Oct. 30. The official bracket for the tourney will be announced after the regular season concludes later this week.
