Men's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Game At Conn College, 15-12

NEW LONDON, Conn. (March 20, 2019) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team lost a non-conference road game at Connecticut College on Wednesday night, 15-12, at the Camels' Salfen Field. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 4-2, while Conn College improves to 3-3. 

Neither team held a lead of more than two goals nearly the entire game, but the Camels finished strong with three-straight goals in the final six minutes to earn the victory. 

Senior Jack Renard (San Clemente, Calif.) recorded a team-high five points on two goals and three assists, while junior Liam Connors (Bellmore, N.Y.) scored three goals and dished out one assist and classmate Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.) had two tallies and one helper. Also picking up multi-point games for Merchant Marine were senior Michael Rodriguez (Coronado, Calif.) with two goals and junior Mike Morsberger (Catonsville, Md.) with a goal and an assist. 

Junior Zac Tilley (Carolina Beach, N.C.) made 13 saves between the pipes in the losing effort. Rodriguez led the Mariners with five groundballs, while freshmen Lukas Peregoy (Medford, N.Y.) and Jason Aiello (Northport, N.Y.) both had four each and also tied for the game-high with two caused turnovers each along with junior Adam Behrndt (Glenmoore, Pa.). Senior Charley Hughes (Baltimore, Md.) won 14 face-offs on the night. 

For the Camels, junior Jack Rutter led all players in the game with seven points on six goals and one assist. Sophomore Toby Almeida won 16 face-offs and picked up a game-best eight groundballs. In goal, junior Colin Smith played the first half and made five saves, while senior Jameson Hill closed out the final 30 minutes and had seven stops.
