Peter Rackett has been the epitome of support for all the Mariners’ athletic teams since his arrival at Kings Point as a plebe in the fall of 1957. Since 1970, Peter has held numerous positions within the Blue and Gray Club including Secretary, Vice President, President, and as a member of the Board of Advisors. He has been the emcee of the Post-Season Football Banquets for 20 years, providing plentiful memories with his spectacular slide show for all who have attended. IN terms of the Athletic Hall of Fame, Peter wrote the original By-Laws in 1976, was a member of the Charter Revision Committee in 1989 and has been on the Selection Committee since its inception in 1990. A tireless recruiter and fundraiser, Peter has made presentations to athletic recruits for over 21 years, was the President of the Mariners Gridiron Club for 11 years and a member since 1980. Peter, in his positions within the Academy’s Alumni Association, has been the sportswriter for the Kings Pointer and Kings Point Log and has been awarded a number of accolades. His list of recognitions include: the Meritorious Alumni Service Award for his contributions to the Blue and Gray Club (1976), the Blue and Gray Club Outstanding Service to Varsity Athletics Award (1978), the Distinguished Service Award as a supporter of the Alumni Association and Athletic Activities (1986), and the Captain Joe Prosser Award for distinguee service to the Regiment in a non-teaching role (1995). Peter has also been active in the Athletic Department’s Team Advisor Program, serving as the advisor to the football and track and field teams. For his continued contributions to the varsity program and the Academy’s Midshipmen, Peter was awarded the Captain James Liebertz Memorial Award, presented to someone who exemplifies traits of dedication, perseverance, enthusiasm, and a love for Kings Point Athletics in 1996. The following spring he was recognized as the recipient of the Mark J. Paradiso Service Award which is bestowed upon a member of the Academy family as voted by the Midshipmen athletes for dedication and service to the Kings Point Athletics.
