Steve Midas, a member of the men’s soccer program entered
the Athletic Hall of Fame as the All-Time leader in goals scored at
any of the five Federal Service Academies. In addition, at
the time of his induction, he held five Academy Records.
Midas led the Blue & Gray in scoring during all four seasons in
a Mariner’s uniform and helped the team compile an overall
record of 25-26-6. His scoring totals of 72 career goals and
42 career assists (totaling 186 points) are all still individual
soccer records at Kings Point. The next closest athlete on
the All-Time Points List sits at 134, over a 50 point difference
from Midas’ totals. He also owns season records for
goals (26) and points (62).
In addition to statistical records, Midas was awarded numerous
accolades for his excellence on the pitch. He was a
three-time All-New York State Collegiate selection, an All-New
York/New Jersey Conference All-Star, and a Suburban Conference
All-Star. Following his tenure at the Academy, Midas, who was
an LCDR in the US Coast Guard, was named to the All-Navy Team in
1985 and 1986 and the All-Armed Forces Team in 1985. His two
brothers, Matt and Phil, were also standout players for the
Mariners, creating a Midas legacy that will forever remain in Kings
Point Soccer lore.
